The emphasis is on capturing high quality images that help sell the pieces. Whether it be necklaces, bracelets, rings, or earrings, the quality of the images is critical for online sales. But we understand that for most folks their time is best spend selling or creating jewelry not taking pictures of it so we have tailored the workshop for individuals whose primary job is not product photography. We have taught jewelry makers, web designers, high volume retailers and even portrait photographers. The level of instruction is tailored to the abilities of the participants.
The one day class will cover camera options, reasonably priced lighting equipment, tabletop studio lighting techniques, background choices, etc. You will also learn about camera settings used to properly photograph several jewelry types including polished metals, diamonds, colored stones, pearls, and beads.
The workshop begins with the fundamentals of , cameras, lighting and other equipment and ends with discussion of image editing with a focus on fast time saving editing techniques. (If you are spending hours in Photoshop now, you are probably doing something wrong). We will also look at common mistakes (images too dark, incorrect colors, blurry images) and how to avoid them.
The morning schedule will be a seminar format with the lecture period running to noon. There will be a one hour break for lunch. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance of our location. After lunch Stephen will be shooting several jewelry examples and discussing Photoshop basics. You are welcome to bring a jewelry item with you to discuss more specifics, if time permits, in the afternoon session. If you already have a camera, you should bring it with you. (There won’t be a lot of time for individual picture taking, but we can make sure everyone is up to speed on the various setting of their cameras.) If you do not own a camera you may want to consider waiting to make your purchase after attending the class. We have had several participants mention that they rushed out to buy a camera and wished they had waited.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I encourage you to visit our website gemphotography.com to get tons of great information on jewelry photography.
Looking forward to meeting all of you,
Stephen
